Detroit Homeless Backpack Project

Location: Detroit, Michigan - Map It STATUS: Active

Burners Without Borders Detroit is a direct action outreach organization that serves our homeless population by providing them much needed supplies to survive the cold, harsh winter on the streets. Over the past seven winters BWB Detroit has collected donated items and created supply filled backpacks to give out to the homeless who do not go to shelters during the cold months. As another winter approaches we reflect back on the generosity and compassion of our community over the past several years and give thanks.

Winter 2013

Over the last two years we have been able to purchase 250 brand new backpacks each year and fill them not only with the canned goods donated but with purchased items such as hand warmers and toiletries. We hope this year to continue our project with the goal of giving out over 300 backpacks this year each with a gift certificate to a local restaurant so homeless are able to escape the extreme weather and find some comfort. The donations collected by patrons have afforded BWB Detroit the means to create many supply filled backpacks for our project. The generosity of our patrons humbles us and we are honored to be able to receive so we may disperse.

We thank each of you for your past donations and for any future assistance you give to Burners without Borders Detroit. Please know that we can not do what we do without the help of people like you.

So won’t you join us in our upcoming events and please brainstorm with us on ways that we can continue to help others! Who in your city do you see that needs help? What organization could use a robust crew of like minded citizens to come in and help them on a project? These events could be one time or on going it matters not…what matters is that they are!!!
