Burners Without Borders Projects begin in Taiwan

Location: - Map It STATUS: Active

Burners in Taiwan are beginning BWB projects throughout the country! In the past few months, there have been several projects led by Pei Chieh Wu, who was raised in the country but currently splits time between both California and Taiwan. She has been involved with the San Diego Youtopia community and was passionate about starting projects in her home country.

The first was a hiking trail clean up day during the week of Earth Day in April. The local government from the Taichung City Waste Department had a trash and recycle project which donates fertilized soil when you bring in recycled items. Pei Chieh and another local burner gathered a group of 25 friends and family for the cleanup. As a result, they were able to get 20 bags of 20 lb fertilized soil from all the recycled items they collected. which they used for a permaculture garden that was donated from the Taichung City WuFong High School.

The soil was used at a permaculture garden which was donated from the Taichung City WuFong High School. A group was organized to help plant corn and papaya during the day, and at the conclusion of the planting, the local fire conclave came out and did a small workshop at the end of the day.

In addition to the gardening and LNT events, an art workshop for low-income children and a local artist was reached out to assist with the project. Ten kids participated in making a BWB banner with their handprints on it. The banner was then placed at the BWB permaculture garden.

It’s amazing what can happen when a passionate burner really wants to help their local community. BWB has been helping empower the burner community to do social good for the past 12 years.

Below are some photos from the projects. Check out more about BWB Taiwan and their efforts on their Facebook page.
