For those of us who volunteered with Burner Without Borders in the Gulf Coast or Peru, it was painfully obvious how much difference just a few hours of preparation made in whether someone was sinking, or surviving.

And living here, on planet earth, in these times, it just makes sense to be ready. Because when it happens, whether it be a flood, an earthquake or a prolonged power/water outage,  it will already be too late.

But with just a few simple steps--just putting a few regular household items together in the right way with a couple specialty items-- you can have the peace of mind that comes from knowing with the shit hits the fan, you've got a rain slicker. So to speak.

But thriving is more than just about our own survival as individuals, it is about creating the connections with our community that will enable our culture to grow and blossom no matter what.
