This is the first in a 10-part series of how we can apply Burning Man's ten principles to our communities. Don't miss the first one-Oh Shit! What Now? and exercise in Radical Self Reliance. Come out with $25 and your items to share and leave with a 72-hour emergency kit.
Oh Shit! What Now?
A Workshop in Earthquake Preparedness.
April 4th Noon till 4pm
At Abundant Sugar: 618A Moulton Ave, LA 90031 (Brewery Complex)
It is not a matter of "if" but "when," so lets be ready. We all know to have an Earthquake kit but how many of us do, and how many people know what is in the one they currently have. Together we will build our "Oh Shit" kits learning why each item is important and what their uses are.
Carmen Mauk, director of Burners Without Borders (www.burnerswithoutborders.org) will be on hand to speak about disaster relief and how a community can make a BIG difference from the inside out. Planning for what to do ahead of time and where to go to help, and for help. We can put our network in place before it happens and implement it when it happens.
There will be special guests from City of LA Emergency Management Department to speak about what to actually do during and after a major earthquake. Real answers to every one of your questions.
There is a $25 materials fee to cover everything in the kit. I will purchase each item in bulk to save funds and your time. Please RSVP to camps@la-burningman.org for confirmation and payment information. I need to know how much stuff to purchase so you must RSVP by April 1st (no foolin'). Please bring a backpack, small suitcase, or other pack to put everything into.
If anything, we as Burners know how to survive. Radical Self-Reliance! This will be part of a regular series of workshops exploring each of the 10 principles of Burning Man and how we can apply them to our greater communities.
Thanks
