Playa Wood Recycling
A tremedous effort that gathered the largest wood donation ever to Habitat for Humanity for providing low-income housing in Reno, NV...
Recycling Black Rock City into new homes!
This story about the wood recycling that ran in the Reno Gazette Journal newspaper
Many, many thanks to everyone who made this happen, esp. Steveo
for making the connection with Habitat for Humanity, Lisa/Shaleen for
making the great signs and flyers, and Big Stick and the DPW, and the
rest of BM staff, for pulling our ass out of the wringer when we ( not
surprisingly ) got overwhelmed with the amount of donated material. The
full story ran on page A2 but there was also a "teaser" on the front
page that had the lead to the story with a picture of the mother and
daughter that will live in one of the homes being built. Two photos
ran, nice coverage overall. And it was a pretty special moment to meet
the family that will be living in one of the homes made from all those
disassembled theme camps.
Perhaps the only sour note is they've got all
this lumber, and no one to build with it. Plan is to take two years to
finish the other nine houses.
