The local alderman’s office has agreed to ask block club members to go through their basements and donate cool stuff to be made into sculpture.

Under the model being pursued, the basement treasures will first be part of a neighborhood garage sale, with proceeds going to finance the art project.  What is left over will be used directly to create art.  The Chamber of Commerce will get members to display the sculptures, as a neighborhood promotion.  When the first wave of art is replaced in the next semester, it will move up to rooftops to become a “sculpture garden” for the benefit of commuters on the city’s elevated trains.
