Growcology
BWB is partnering with Growcology to help with the materials needed to build a greenhouse. The $600 of community money will also provide a portion of the initial investment needed for organic and heirloom seed varieties to fill the new greenhouse.

Growcology will provide an education facility and additional resources to instructors and students to help spread knowledge and skills related to sustainable living. We will provide a portion of our space to local volunteers who wish to grow their own vegetables. In addition, much of the surplus from the existing fruit orchards and vegetable gardens will be donated to volunteers and to charity. The goal of this project is to inspire local leaders to start growing their own food, and to eventually create community gardens in their own neighborhoods.
In addition to working from our site in Riverside, Growcology is compiling resources on community gardens for the entire inland Southern California region, networking the various existing community and school gardens, while also collecting information and media on local gardens and expert gardeners to make available online. From interviews with master gardeners to tours of arboretums and nurseries, Growcology aims to provide as many resources as possible to prospective and current gardeners.
We will also be helping educate our volunteers and community members by bringing on instructors with knowledge and experience related to permaculture, gardening, alternative energy, food preparation, plant propagation, xeriscaping, and other sustainable skill-sets during hands-on workshops.
Lastly, we are fighting against the pernicious influence of the global monoculture food network by cultivating a diverse variety of locally adapted and native plant species. With thousands of different plants currently growing, including edible and useful natives, drought tolerant species, and heirloom varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals, propogation is not just viable but ecologically beneficial and responsible. The attendees of workshops and visitors to the garden will be able to view the plants in their mature state, and return home with their own saplings, cuttings, and seeds.
