BWB's Cinco de Playa Worldwide Clean Up Weekend
BWB volunteers representing three countries and 10 cities took the initiative to clean up areas in their local communities that needed some TLC. The weekend clean up was a huge success with over 2 tons of debris removed from parks, beaches, and trails. You can read the volunteer's enthusiastic report out here.
Mike from Oregon
Headline News reports that the Cinco De Playa Beach Clean Up on the north Oregon shore was a huge success (for seven people) and so many more people will now enjoy a two mile stretch of clean beach. Collectively our small group gathered about 100 pounds of debris and trash, and about 200 pounds of sand, haha.
The sunny weather held for an unusual 5 hours while we grilled hot dogs, consumed beverages and last but NOT least we got to burn some art!
We are glad to report the names of our awesome volunteers: Jade and Rusty Pelican brought snacks and smores...Pallas and Poe worked the beach and the grill..
Jay and Beeb brought their ol' dirty gloves...and tongue plugged the house stereo into the generator for some audible soul funk on the beach! We can't wait to jump in and spread the word for next year! Burn on BWB'S and forever thanks....for headline news we are Ravens Rest...dust huggies to ya!
Russell from Somerset, England
Russell shows that you don't have to live in a big city surrounded by thousands of burners to make a difference. Russell and a friend managed to clean up the vandalised and ill cared for Millennium Green playground.
"The cleanup was great. 15 wooden pallets, 4 tires, a rusty radiator,
2 oil canisters and a sewer cover were amongst the things we reclaimed.
"Almost all of it was recycled using local facilities."
Patrick from Austin
The day was about as perfect as it could be for the Austin BwB Cinco de Playa cleanup! We met at one of the local parks we adopted to inspect and clean the picnic tables we had installed last year. They were in great shape still, the paint is weathering very well!
Overall we had a wonderful time! Special thanks goes out to Girlie Girl., who organized and orchestrated the event, and to Lance, who sponsors the park
Charlie from Boulder Colorado
We had a great turn out of about 20 people and spent 2 hours cleaning a mile long stretch of a popular hiking/biking trail in Boulder CO.
We hauled out 3 pickup loads of trash including a couch that had been dumped there. We separated cans and bottles for recycling and saved wood for the burn barrel.
