PAST PROJECTS FUNDED BY THE BWB GRANT PROGRAM
BWB is spreading its wings even further with projects stretching over 4 continents. Not only is the geography expansive, these projects provide a wide variety of assistance ranging from solar powered DJ spaceships for kids to permaculture in Botswana. Please check out the individual projects to see how you can get involved.
Cantu Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E) Ensenada, Mexico - $400
CARE is a volunteer led organization that helps sponsor monthly sterilization clinics and adoption events for homeless and injured dogs and cats in Baja California North. BWB's partnership will provide sterilizations to over-sized dogs for 6 months.
Community Chest Virginia City, Nevada - $250
Community
Chest provides a variety of services to Storey County including a food
closet, thrift store, counseling, before and after school care, and
more. BWB partnered with Community Chest to protect the productive
community garden from unwanted critters.
European Disaster Volunteers (EDV) United Kingdom -$500
EDV
is a volunteer driven, non-governmental organization which aids
disaster affected communities worldwide by providing initial relief and
helping them achieve sustainable recovery. EDV is run by three long
term BWB Pisco volunteers visit them online at www.edvolunteers.org. BWB's partnership will provide the seed money needed to respond to the next disaster.
Growcology Riverside, California -$600
Growcology
is an educational facility focused on inspiring local leaders to start
growing their own food and to eventually create community gardens in
their own neighborhoods. Housed on a 5 acres, Growcology hopes to
provide food to over 2,000 people a year. BWB's partnership will
provide funds for a greenhouse and the initial investment for organic
and heirloom seeds to fill it.
Koipound Cincinnati, OH -$500
Koipound's
8,000 sq. feet of indoor outdoor space will allow the greater community
to share the vision, art, and way of life through neighborhood
clean-ups, workshop weekends, and a performance space. BWB's
partnership will provide the finishing touches to Koipound's darkroom.
Pensacola, FL -$250
In 2005 a Category 4 hurricane offered a unique opportunity to take food distribution to the next level by leaving an empty concrete lot where a food warehouse once stood. The initial 15 raised beds that were built have led to a huge demand for gardens throughout the Pensacola area. BWB's partnership will help expand this important school garden project.
Above and Beyond All Across Canada -$200
Benjamin
Jordan is attempting a 10,000km paragliding flight across the entire
country of Canada. Along this flight Ben and crew will stop at
numerous youth camps giving presentations on flight and encouraging
kids to pursue their own dreams. BWB is sponsoring Benjamin in this
amazing quest to support kids in going to camp. Check out their latest Blog post here.
Petaluma Phoenix Center Petaluma, CA -$300
The Petaluma Phoenix Center is a teen center that is home to a youth run arts committee and several free after school arts and music programs. They partnered with Petaluma Bounty to create a 12'x24' mural / sign to advertise the bounty farm to the general public. BWB's resources were used to purchase the
necessary materials. The project is completed and you can

Sowing the Seeds of Permaculture (S.S.P) Gaborone, Botswana -$700
This
amazing project is bringing the benefits of Permaculture to one of the
most needed areas in the world! S.S.P. is creating a
permaculture partnership with the students of the secondary school in
the Maru a Pula community, providing fresh local produce through
sustainable means. BWB's grant money will be used to create a
permaculture garden at the secondary school. Read their latest Blog here.
Pisco Sin Fronteras Pisco, Peru -$500
Pisco Sin Fronteras
is a new, non-profit organization formed on year anniversary of the
massive earthquake
which devastated the city. They provide assistance to the people who
most need it by
helping to build houses, schools, sanitation units and helping with
other community-based projects. BWB's partnership will allow for the
purchase of much needed tools for the ever growing volunteer force.

Starma Circus Somerville, MA -$500
This summer Starma Circus
will be providing !Suddenly Circus! Interactive Circus Experiences FREE
of charge in parks located in lower income areas throughout Somerville,
Massachusetts. BWB's partnership is assisting with performance costs
and props.

Trash to Treasure Fort Lauderdale, FL -$500
Trash to Treasure
is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing waste by collecting
clean "scrap" from the community and redistributing the materials for
art and education purposes. The demonstration garden, allows them to
extend their 4-R's education by showcasing conservation in the garden.
BWB's partnership will provide water spigots, the ONLY non donated or
reused item in the garden.

Washburn Farm to School Program Washburn, WI -$500
This
40'x80' garden is generally grown and cared for by families of students
and community members. The resulting produce is integrated into
nutritional education programs as well as supplying fresh local foods
for healthy school meals and snacks. BWB's partnership will provide the
strawbales needed for a 'green design' storage shed.
Solar DJ Spaceship for Kids Park City, UT -$500
This out of this world functional art piece
will be gracing its presence at youth events. Not only will this
creative piece bring art and music to kids, it aims to empower kids to
believe in their dreams. BWB's partnership will assist with travel
costs associated with bringing the solar saucer to kids.
