We are excited to announce BWB's Grantees for 2011! Thanks to everyone who applied for our grant and most importantly for initiating unique, innovative ideas in your community. With so many amazing proposals, making a final decision wasn't easy, but we have done our best to choose projects that will hopefully inspire YOU, the global community, to initiate a project in your neck of the woods. We will be posting blogs and photos as the projects are completed.

BWB's 2011 Award Winners

bottle school bare

Guatemalan students of all ages helped build this bottle school.

Hug it Forward-Bottle Schools in Guatemala-$500

We love everything about this wildly successful project. Bottle schools are schools built using soda bottles and other "waste" plastic. Entire communities come together to build bottle schools, empowering themselves to create change in their lives. Community leaders manage the project, mothers and father donate their labor to build the school, and children are involved at all stages. They collect the bottles and stuff them full of trash to make eco-bricks, In this way, THEY build THEIR school. Last year BWB partially funded Hug It Forward's  third bottle school and to date they have built twelve with plans to scale this globally by working with the Peace Corps in Guyana.
