History
Burners Without Borders (BWB) coalesced from a spontaneous, collective instinct to meet gaping needs where existing societal systems were clearly failing...
Following the 2005 Burning Man event, several participants headed south into the Hurricane Katrina disaster area to help people rebuild their devastated communities. They focused their initial efforts on rebuilding a destroyed Vietnamese temple in Biloxi, Mississippi. After several months there, that job done, they moved to another needy Mississippi community, Pearlington, to continue to work hard -- gifting their time -- to help those in need.
So are you a non-profit group? Theme camp? disaster relief NGO?
Ah, well, about that. The answer is: yes. no. all of the above.
On purpose, we're loosely defined. It allows us the benefits of all of the above, without any of the paper work. Tax deductible donations can be made via our sister group, the Black Rock Arts Foundation. Just let them know it's for BWB.
